Education is best antidote to poverty

I agree with Trudy Rubin (Opinion, Jan. 20), "Building schools for girls is helping to build peace." As President Barack Obama said in September 2008: "Every child — every boy, and every girl — should have the ability to go to school. To ensure that our nation does its part to meet that goal, we need to establish a $2 billion global education fund."

Dollar for dollar, education is the best antidote to poverty. Right now, there are 75 million primary school-aged children in poor countries who are still not in school, who need the chance to learn to read and write, helping to lift their families out of poverty.
